Gaffney Independent Senior Living

Gaffney used to be a low cost nursing home in Dover, NH that closed down a few months before we took on the project. Our client, Community Action Partnership of Strafford County, received government funding to renovate the building into affordable senior living. The building is in a historical district, therefore, throughout the project there were multiple approval processes from the historical district board and zoning board, especially for exterior changes. The building had a lot of structural problems and a prevalence of asbestos that had to be removed.

After working at JSA for a couple months, I was assigned lead on the project once the previous job captain left. I coordinated with out engineering consultants, both structural and MEP engineers, to try and fix more problems as they arose. The building was eventually approved to add some dormers on the right addition to create some units in the attic, this required a lot of coordination with our structural engineer consultant and MEP engineers to reroute all electrical and plumbing as well as reformat the structure of the roof to implement the new dormers. We also had to add an elevator into the project that connected to both the main building and the addition, which were not at the same heights for their floors due to the elevation of the site.
